I'm looking for hosting that runs like a VPS or dedicated box (fast), but is easy to manage like shared hosting. Is there such a thing? Would cloud hosting work as well as a VPS?

I've tried setting up and running a VPS, but I guess I'm just not tech enough to do so.

This is only a suggestion, as I don't know too much about hosting VPS and dedicated and all that. But why don't you contact a hosting company that has Live Chat, and talk with them about if there is such a thing about VPS/Dedi that is easy to manage like shared hosting... That way, you can get your answers from real hosting professionals, and then figure out what you need to do.

In my experience of hosting (which is very little other then ordering who I use shared hosting with) they will pretty much do anything to help you within their power to get/keep your business...

So it may be worth taking a few moments to chat live with a hosting company... Hell, start with HostGator and when you have all your information, find someone whose price fits in your budget...

Good Luck Man...

Thanks guys. I'll give another provider a try and bug the hell out of them on live chat with my server noobness.

If you are considering upgrading from a shared environment to a VPS it's hardly worth it, go for dedicated if you want to see a difference in performance..

Just today I am moving back some sites from a VPS, annoying...

If you want a solid VPS company to use go with Servint.net. We run EnvyusMedia.com on a VPS there and we have never had a single problem. Their support is phenomenal and we have never experienced any downtime. They don't oversell their servers and overall they are the best VPS provider I have ever used and I have been through quite a few.

If you are on a budget and can manage your VPS yourself without bugging support for every little thing check out IntoVPS: VPS hosting as they are super cheap and provide a solid VPS server. They don't oversell their servers either and their uptime is great. It's an unmanaged service meaning you can't ask support silly questions like how to do this and how to do that but for the price, quality, and speed you simply can't beat it. I run some of my sites on there and have been using them for a couple years now and have never had a problem. You simply won't find a cheaper place that IntoVPS - period.

My advice would change depending on what you want to do.

Do you just want a platform you can drag some PHP files onto? Are you hosting an app?

Where are the deets?

I'm not looking to host anything too advanced, just a bunch of WordPress sites, MFA sites and Prosper202.

The more I think about it I just need to take the time to learn what I doing. Probably save me some headaches.

This can also be a problem for you. You can spend all your time reading/worrying/tweaking/securing/monitoring about your server.

What you need is a quality managed host who takes care of that stuff for you. All you need to worry about is uploading your website and making money.

If you would like to hear more goto our website and hit the live chat button or you can email me info @ amerinoc . com.

Stop pimping your service and let the guy learn. Jesus Fucking Christ. Learning how to manage his own server and saving a shit ton of money is a million times better than being stupid and spending money on something you don't need to spend money on.

You don't have to be a genius to manage a server. I say take the time to learn and save yourself some money. If you want something done right, you have to do it yourself.

Thanks man. I think this is what I'm going to do. If I'm going to be running a shit load of sites, I should be able to manage them.

I am on shared vps.
After installing wamp and do some changes in my.in and php.ini and setting some passwords in phpmyadmin and installing awstats and setting permision for folders inside of www dir adding a new site is easy
-make dir, coppy files, make changes to vhost config, add another config for awstats and thats it.
I think learning the whole process once is good investment.
Btw about most important thing - backup i use 2 scripts to backup database and content and program calles dropbox to sync it wint 3 other backup comps

In the real world, Time is Money. Allot of webmasters don't have the time or want to waste the time screwing with a server. We have been providing managed hosting for over 10 years and have THOUSANDS of customers who do just what I said... upload websites and make money.
Looking at your "hosting" co. website I see your frustration in me "pimping" my service "No Wordpress Allowed" Obviously you are the genius you mention.

Maybe you should take your own advice.

Bitch, I manage 150 VPS clients and close to 1k shared hosting clients, myself. I've been doing this since before you knew what the Internet was. I launched wordpress-free hosting *last week*, because it's been requested for a long time.

There's a reason I host hundreds of WF members and you have negative rep. Every single one of your posts on WF has been you trying to market your shitty service. Go eat a bag of dicks.

there are realy many great vps hosting providers, just find a reputable one and consult their customer support and then you shall know what you can rely on

I ended up going with a Hostgator VPS. Their setup was pretty painless and they are migrating my sites over for free.

say if you have 10 websites that make money would you be confident enough to put all 10 in the same vps? obv the server can cope (and you have independant IPs for each).

If not what would be the alternatrive configurastion?
Would you spread them out to limit headaches?
