I'm in a weird situation right now where I have very little time to complete a big project and the original coder I hired can't do everything he said he would... Leaving 'scraps around the edges' of my original big project.

Most of these scraps are so small I'd normally figure out how to do them myself, but I'm running out of time.

I don't know if it would be better for you to work by the hour or per the tiny clean-up job on this, and frankly I'm not sure how many cleanup jobs there will be in total yet... But I need someone on standby ready to pounce when I do know sometime this week, probably in 48 hours or so.

These tasks would mainly be going into a large, proprietary php environment sort of modeled after joomla or phpnuke, and adding tiny bits of simple functionality or fixing SQL script errors that these php scripts are causing.

Template tweaking might be needed too, especially if you are familiar with the Smarty template engine.

I can pay by bitcoin or paypal, per function or hourly, but I just need to hear from you soon and let me know if you're comfortable working on this kind of environment and have time to work on it this week.

So anyone interested, plz PM me asap and let me know if this sounds like something for you.

Thanks everyone,
Luke

My guess is that you don't really know if these are big or small tasks.

What I see is:
SQL errors, Template changes in smarty, coding to an undisclosed framework.

+ Unknown mess of code

Too bad I am slow and unavailable, this sounds fun. (In a masochistic kind of way)
Will see if a PHP coder I know can be sent your way.

Fun? Sounds like a nightmare to me.

Digging through someone else's sloppy code for hours (I'm assuming sloppy, since he couldn't finish the job), just to fix some little error in some feature. No thanks.

Sounds like it would be a maze to dig into that.
Did your last coder use a framework ?

so you want to pay by function when hours could be spent trawling through the code just *looking* for the right function to edit? yeah, good luck with that.

Ah good you got someone.

PHP coder I was thinking of is booked solid.

So you never actually worked as a developer, then?

Crawling through messy code, spelunking in databases, hoping to find a nugget of knowledge in dusty tomes of documentation (obsolete and never updated), the spaghetti you eat for lunch better organized than the code you have to work with... That's life for most coders in most industries.

Day-in day-out for 12 years now.

It's just by taking on luke's project, I then become responsible for his operation, which means I'm also then responsible for whatever shitty, sloppy amateur code was previously written. That's why I never do projects like this, and if they ever do come across my inbox, I refuse them.
