Hi,
I am looking for a 27" + monitor. I know there are many reviews out there but can't really decide on one. Does anyone use Planar monitors? They seem to have amazing reviews. Also there is Hanns G with good reviews. Samsung of course but that brand is overpriced, however I would still pay a buck more for a good monitor so that doesn't really matter.

Must have HDMI.
It will be used with a macbook.

Thanks

What about the Dell utra series? Doesn't have HDMI but you can easily get an HDMi to DVI plug. I'm using the 23" and it's pretty decent. They go on sale often too.

Thanks! Didn't even think of Dell. Sleek monitors. I just checked their website and they have a 29" Ultra Sharp Panoramic monitor. Looks very nice for $699. 27" go for $400-500.

Currently I have a 24" monitor but would love to go bigger. Just not enough space on that one. :/
I guess I could just buy a DVI to Mini-DVI port, doesn't need to be HDMI after all.

Built-in speakers is really gimmicky to me. A cheap satellite set with a subwoofer would be so much better.

This all-in-one trend needs to die. Apply the Unix philosophy to life and your neckbeard will evolve. Mine hits the Esc key in Vim for me.

If I were buying a 27" monitor right now it would be a toss up between the Dell Ultrasharp (which certainly does have a HDMI port) or the Asus PB278Q. I might also look at the Samsung 850 series. You really can't go wrong with any of these three models. They are all 2560x1440 resolution, all have impressive color reproduction and are all IPS panels (PLS for the Samsung). Yes, the IPS is wroth paying for IMO, especially if you are doing creative work. Buying quality monitors is highly important to me. If I'm going to be staring at something all day, I want it to be the very best image quality. I've been using Dell Ultrasharps for years and they are superb but I might actually switch to the Asus, but I think my next monitor is going to be the Dell Ultrasharp 30 inch.

using the 27" thunderbolt cinema display, love it
Bought my macbook just before apple dropped thunderbolt in their Macs. The newest ones(MacBooks) have a dual display which I would love to have, however, my macbook is still under apple care until the end of 2013 so unless I sell it and buy a new one, then I would get thunderbolt cinema.
And I bet that once I go with this option, f-ing apple will drop 30" or 32" cinema displays. This always happens to me.

Very nice monitors. Love the 850 Samsung. Thank you for these and mentioning IPS. I completely forgot about this as well.
Haven't been monitor shopping in a while.

And yes, getting rid of built-in speakers could possibly lower the price. They are useless anyways.
I am not sure if more expensive monitors ($450+) have speakers, but anything around 250-400 mark has them for sure, or at least the ones I've been looking at.

How about 27" Achieva Shimian IPS Display for $400. Just need to be lucky that you get a nice unit. Got lots of reviews from different forums. Just google it :)

I don't know about you guys but I'm sick of nearly every monitor out there having a resolution of 1920x1080 just because it's true 1080p. But this means almost all monitors from 22 to 28in have that crappy resolution. This limits options and competition for those ranges of monitors.. and makes non-1920x1080 ones much much more expensive.

I've avoided upgrading my old school Acer 1920x1200 LCD just because I like the extra real estate on it. That res used to be a standard till everyone switched to this 1080 crap.

I've heard good things about the Dell IPS but prices for the non-standard resolutions just have not come down at all really compared to the standard ones. I'm cheap sometimes..

+1 for Dell UltraSharp. I have 2 23" and they are incredibly crisp and clear.

Yep, fuck the horizontal resolution. Vertical is what you have to scroll the most.
