Lets say the site is about dogs, with content related to 3 main keywords, but also a further 3

dogLeadsBonesToys.com is available, but is pretty stuffed and long. I cant drop any of them as the domains arent available, and each kw is as valuable as the other.

Do I get this and make do? I might also want to feature dog kennels, will the emd benefit still help long term?

Should the site end up turning into an authority site, move it to something a bit more pro, i.e. mydogadvice.com or start out with this? how much harder to rank?

I could also Split each niche off into seperate sites with seperate domains? i.e. mydogleads.com mydogbones.com etc

at a bit of a crossroads here, i've read a lot about EMD's not being worth too much now, but surely something is better than nothing?

Long term, I'd like to see this become an authority site, or maybe just a busy site, rather than just a "dog" blog with spammy posts.

Are you focused on Google or making money online? Whatever choice you chose, a brand is the way to go. Google wants brands. If you want to stop fucking around and do actual marketing, you're going to need a brand.

If you really want to waste time, use EMDs for pumper sites until you get enough authority backlinks. I would strongly suggest having more than SEO in your gameplan if you are looking for any type of long-term scenario.

Carry on...

I've had a 27 character emd before. I had no issues with it from the SEO side, just a lack of repeat visitors. In fact, it was even a .biz.

However, I'd recommend you go for the brandable domain. That's my main site now, and it's much better like that. I can't say it's been easy to rank (but I have been going after some pretty competitive keywords) but I think it's a better bet in the long run.

Emd recovery is quite possible but i suggest you same as CCarter said i.e go with brandable domains. You know Adam I made a site for babies & at that time I picked the EMD domain for quick SERPs but guess what? now i m finding a brandable domain for my baby's site because i really did lots of work on that site and its far good, everything is prefect, content made for readers, no spammy links, updating sites weekly but Only one problem i.e domain, Yes if you want to run your website for long term - instead of making and selling & want to run it for yearss then go with brandable name.
