I hate it when I see long domain names, containing four words or more. I think a domain name should be short and easy to remember. You wouldn't expect internet users to remember a five word long domain name, right?

No, five words would probably be to hard to remember. But, that's if we're talking about branding. If you're just hoping to show up in serps, a long domain might be okay.

For instance "What To Do in Boston" would be a five word domain. However, I would go ahead and say its fairly valuable.

I avoid too long domain names in case users either forget or misspell it (more chance of misspelling when there's more characters).

Avoid long domain names. They may be good for your SEO but not for your visitors. They will not easily remember your site. Moreover, there are also other SEO methods that you can use without using domain names that are too long.

I can't agree more with you. There are many ways of optimizing your website without using a keyword rich domain name. Moreover, a website with an extremely long domain name would seem like a scam to me.

I avoid them altogether because if it's not something that's easy to type or remember I figure the content can't be all that great.

There is always an alternative like "BostonView" or "AroundBoston" or "SeeBostonOrDie" so you can make it shorter and more memorable for sure, don't even have to contain Boston in it as long if you making it for users but SEs.

The domain name is a better short and easy to remember, it will benefit you because your domain name is easy to remember everyone.

Just about to launch an ecom site on a 23 character domain (3 word) + 4 char tld. Domain name is a niche key phrase with quite a few exact match searches. Might put up a case study of search traffic vs direct and how it compares to our other ecom sites for returning visitors once it is up a month or so.

Absolutely, A domain name should be smaller and unique that a person or a visitor can remember with out much efforts. It also helps in SEO of the website. The more specific the username, the more high rank it will have in Optimizations. I always recommend small names like google, yahoo etc.

Well, there are 4 word domain names and 4 word domain names. howtoplaygin wouldn't be as bad as gynecomastiasurgeryrecoverymethods. But with all the latest google updates the keyword match long tail domains are less and less powerful.

me too. Hate whatever's long. All the domains that I use is all short and neat. Somes are just 4 characters.

Staying away from long domains or at least not spending too much time on them is probably a good idea... This update actually effected one of my sites that was only 3 words (BuyKeyword1Keyword2.com)

What sucked was that it was actually a good site... wasn't plastered with ads and had no adsense ads on it. Had product ratings and reviews from people that actually bought the products.

$1,000+ per month income gone at the click of a button after so many hours of work put into that site.
(FUCK YOU, MATT!)

Quick question guys I have read around on so many blogs ect. over the years that having something like www.easy-money-site.com is not good for rankings but over the last couple of weeks on fairly well established blogs they are now saying that having-in between your keywords is the way to go any thoughts on this ?

I am new to website management and am having the website Hotels On The Vegas Strip dot com developed for me. Is this too long of a url?
