I'm interested in setting up a few adsense sites. Let's say I have a niche keyword and an exact match .com domain.

I understand the concept of a link tree/wheel - you'd use Xrumer/Scrapebox etc on your lower/outer nodes to drop link juice on to your money sites. What I don't understand is what content is on these lower/outer nodes, and what anchor text or keywords are being used by Xruper/Scrapebox. Am I correctly assuming you wouldn't be using your main target keywords as you'd be competing against your own main site?

What am I missing? Can anyone give me any examples?

You're not going to have a lot of "content" from xrumer/scrapebox; anything you get from them are going to be spammy forum profiles/blog comments/forum posts/etc. You can easily get thousands upon thousands of these so it would be impossible to have any real content using these.

Any content you use (unique or spun) will be on Web 2.0 sites, Wikis, article directories, etc. And yes, you need to be careful what type of content you put down because if one of your pages isn't well established, something like ezinearticles could outrank you.

A very basic example:

Tier 1: Your money site
Tier 2: Things like EzineArticles, Squidoo, Wordpress, Wikidot all with content relating to your niche pointing to Tier 1
Tier 3: Xrumer/Scrapebox spam to your Tier 2 (and Tier 1 if you feel comfortable doing that)
