I'm thinking of buying a domain and building a link directory on it. It will have over 50,000 pages, with my link in the footer and the only costs will be the domain and hosting. Do link directories still carry some weight with Google?
If i do build a link directory, for site listings I will automate the process to just scrape each site's description and keywords, so It's not exactly high quality.
Yes they do, but you need a "managed by human" system to succeed. For example, dmoz is a kind of a link directory and google really care about it. - That's why people want to get listed. (However, its still hard to get your sites indexed there )
