They made good on the first one:

"The band was inspired to cover the song after hearing Baez's version. Both guitarist Jimmy Page and singer Robert Plant were fans of Baez. Baez's original album had indicated no writing credit, and Led Zeppelin credited the song as "Trad. arr. Page". In the 1980s, Bredon was made aware of Led Zeppelin's version of the song. Since 1990 the Led Zeppelin version has been credited to Anne Bredon/Jimmy Page & Robert Plant, and Bredon received a substantial back-payment in royalties."

If the idea that Led Zeppelin plagiarized large portions of their catalog from lesser-known American artists is news to you, you know very little about American music. That being said, they still rock. Willie Dixon sued them in 1985 and won an out of court settlement.

Great ... first post here at wickedfire and this is what I read. Need to buy a new childhood now.

Who cares really, what they play matters less than how John Bonham & John Paul Jones play it.

For all of you that think all of their songs were original...you're retarted. Oh and guess what...Rolling Stones, Cream, Hendrix...pretty much any classic rock band you've ever heard of...they all played other people's music. Even Jay Z, Run DMC, Mos Def....they all bit the old blues guys.

Blues is where it's at and to say Zep did those songs justice is just straight dumb. I love Zep. One of my favorite bands, but man, Muddy, Willie, Lightning Hopkins, Howlin Wolf, Albert King....that's some great timeless music. Even the blues guys copped each other's style.

Zeppelin might've borrowed a rif or lyric but the arrangement of most all of those songs is taken into an entirely new direction by them from their 12 bar blues birth.

Big deal, It's called sampling, they just did it really early when it wasn't "cool" to do so yet. There are entire genres of music dedicated to the art of sampling,

If anything it just shows Led Zeppelin are innovative thinkers because a good fucking percentage of modern musicians good and bad do this now. (sampling) I've gained MORE respect for Led Zeppelin because they did this, because sampling is awesome...

I mean...

If you can show me that they ripped Kashmir, Stairway, or Dazed & Confused, then I'll officially stop being a Zep fan, but I'm not too worried about them "borrowing" some old blues tunes that have probably been remade a hundred times without credit.

What they did is not 'sampling'. Sampling is that vid you posted which is lifting the entire music from another song which these artists do today because they're too lazy to create their own, don't play an instrument, and/or the record company is too cheap to hire someone to put together original music for that artist.

Zeppelin took something and built off of it, changed it, and made it their own.

However, they still should've credited those singers/bands on their albums for what they did take from them.

many of the great bands of that time were heavily influenced by old blues and folk music... plagiarism is a rough word... Led Zeppelin is bigger...

Self shot meme? Not wasting my time with this. I love Led Zeppelin. One of my all time faves. They have a lot of original stuff, but they also payed a lot of the blues guys stuff, but NO artist plays straight original music. Jon Bonham is my favorite drummer of all time. Nobody hit the drums quite like him and I've played the bass professionally for about 15 years so GTFO. Bet most of you just listen.
