Well, I found these, looked them over, and they look really good. starting with the very basics of php (what each variable means, ect) all the way to coding out a message board type script from scratch. Very easy to read and understand.

I know a lot of stuff online is now done in php and some things can be SUPER confusing. Not saying these books will make you a php guru, but they will for sure help out a lot. +rep maybe? :) I'm working on getting the PHP Anthology from sitepoint. I just gotta find it somewhere first ;) If anyone has it, PM me.

You're welcome!

thanks. ill look it over later.

sucks I had an orange rep, and from one asshole in the thread where jon announced the beta testing for the directory, where all i said was "good to hear, blahblah" someone dropped my rep to red. assholes!!!!!! lol.

how do you extract a .torrent file? first time ive downloaded one.

You associate the .torrent with a Torrent client (such as Azureus) so you can download the content. The .torrent file contains the information for what you want to download: URL of the tracker, file names, file lengths, etc.

Azureus is a pretty nice Torrent client:
Azureus : Java BitTorrent Client

If someone reminds me on Monday, I'll upload a bunch of PHP ebooks on my server. Right now I don't have access to my external HDD. You can PM me for the link.

I also found Lynda's PHP Essential Training program to be really comprehensive and helpful for beginners. You can view more information here:
PHP Essential Training - lynda.com Online Training Library ™

Too bad it's 1.14GB or I would share it with you guys.

Devore - you can't extract a torrent file. a .torrent file contains the information for downloading the file from other peers. In order to download .torrent files from other peers, you need a torrent client:

BitTorrent

Open your .torrent in the client after you've downloaded.

I haven't really touched those books, to be honest. I've primarily been using the Lynda PHP Essentials video tutorials and supplementing that by reading John Wiley & Sons - PHP5 and MySQL Bible.

Speaking of the Lynda PHP Essentials videos :)

I found these links and thought I'd post them. If they don't work after a while, I'll re-upload them. I'm still working on downloading them all, so I don't even know if all work yet. If they don't, I'll work on getting the full versions from somewhere else.

I just noticed this threads becoming a php training thread of sorts. lol. thanks to everyone whos been submitting links/info.

Sams Teach Yourself PHP, Apache, and MySQL is one of my favorite books. It was a huuuge help when I just started learning PHP. I rarely reference it anymore compared to the PHP Manual, but it was still a great resource while I was just learning. I highly recommend it.
