Are you on
http://www.goodreads.com ?
If not, create an account. Over the course of a month,
minimum, create a few custom lists, load up your read list with books you've read from different genres, etc. You'll need at least a hundred or more books in there. Complete your account's profile, picture, bio, etc. Do not skip this. Now, you'll also need to rate and leave written reviews for a couples dozen of those.
Once you've aged your account doing the prior steps, you'll be able to join groups and friend people on there. Be very careful that you have a very good bio, pic, etc. and that those people can see your lists and books. If you don't, most popular people and librarians will take notice and can your ass later on when you push your books.
What you do now that everything is in order is to selectively target users that leave reviews (and not just any reviews, some of those people will go
in depth) in the genre of books you want to promote. Mix these types of friends in with others from other genres. This shouldn't be hard, because you'll see some reviewers you like while you're checking out book and author pages. Note, a lot of good reviewers will only friend you
if you aren't slinging your books, so do this at least a month prior to tossing your books out there on the site or people will defriend you when they see them appear on their news feed if they think you're just using them to promote the book.
Once you get your 20+ known good reviewer base, the rest of the plan will easily fall into place. Change your status on the site to being that of an author, list
one of your books on there with as much meta data and details as you can per week. Your friends should see it listed and go buy/torrent/read it and leave a review. Most will also copy and leave reviews on Amazon as well.
Do note, that while you do this, you should still be leaving reviews for other books occasionally so people don't catch on to your master plan.
Also, any future books you write, you can make a post on your author page for anyone who wants an ARC (Advanced Reader Copy) of the book. So, prior to it being available for purchase, you get reviews and ratings on the site.
