Keyword Elite settings

I've just started using Keyword Elite and I want to know what regular users of this product recommend for the settings in the Preferences section.

How many threads? What does this depend on?

What SE courtesy do you use?

Do you use a proxy server?

I want speed but I also don't want to be banned!
