Should probably be looking for posts from 2007 because I don't think people are making mistakes this dumb anymore but anyway...

Have an affiliate site that is doing pretty well. Decided I wanted to add a big product comparison/review section. So I had some VAs start adding lots of new products with a new photos, tags, affiliate link etc. I had intended to go through and re-write the content for each but being a dumbass I didn't have them set the posts as drafts. They published them.

So not surprisingly when a small site gets 500 new pages with copied content and affiliate links, the rankings tanked. Mostly -40 and a few -100 for most of the better keywords.

I removed the content but I'm thinking the damage has been done. So my question I guess is, do you think the site has a chance to recover or should I scrap it and start over?

I have another site in the niche that I could move the content over to but it doesn't have nearly the link profile the first site had.

I would start over. Google is as trigger happy as they've ever been and it's only going to get worse. No use in riding a dead horse.

Clean up your shit, liquidate whatever assets you've acquired to rank this site, and start anew.

How much do you care about your site, what side of the fence are you on?

You want to short cuts or are you looking to build this into a real business?

I have sites up with 100% dupe content ranking right now, so there might be other variables in play as well.

My suggestion today to anyone who wants to get into the IM game today is to go legit create wonderful content, then share it everywhere excpet google :p...

The site needed to be branded better and probably a different domain but the content was solid. Like the niche and wouldnt mind working it full time.

Guess I'm just pissed at myself that I'm now at least 3 months behind where i was last week. Guess it could be worse.

Probably going to leave the site up and start on the other site.

Panda is now set on rolling updates. You could draft all those suckers and give it time and see what happens... WHILE you start another project. Don't just go delete this one, but fix it, give it time, and use your time on something new that you treat more carefully. That's what I'd do!

^ THAT ONE

If Im in your shoes, I'll move everything to the other site and just do some "undo" the old one and let it stay. With constant updates you'll never know when you'll get back there. Zebra will be released soon to ecoms, penguin will be constantly updated until the cunt is satisfied.

Keep in mind that there's a lot of factors involved and that includes the site age. So better have the best of both worlds.

Update:

I pulled down the content and pretty much left the site, except for adding about 40 blog comments and a few other links.

After about 8 days some of the traffic came back. It looks like some of the keywords have come back partially, but not the primary ones. Still, getting a few hundred visits from Google again is nice. Probably lower traffic right now due to the holiday too, so we'll see how the next week goes.

I'm starting to rewrite the content I removed and add it back to the site, see if any of it ranks.
