Amazing. One of my top sci-fi movies, ever. It just ended and I'm still shocked. Why have I never heard of this movie before? Damn.

Basically, the sun is dying out and a small crew piloting a big bomb aim to travel to the sun to reignite it. And that's not even the movie in a nutshell. That's just the initial mission. One of the most artistic science fictions since 2001: Space Odyssey.

Rose Byrne.

wtf it's out already? since you relate it to a space odyssey. do they find god at the end or something? lol

nvm don't spoil it for me.

yah...2 thumbs way the fuck up....kinda reminded me of event horizon but like 10 times wayy better.....its a sci-fi slash scary drama... fuckin cool though. See it on a big screen some of the scenes look so damn artistic..especially sun scenes..great acting all around..and a nice finish...+rep to soundtrack as well

I completely agree, Mahz. Danny Boyle. Amazing director. (Anyone see Trainspotting?) It was released in the UK in April and other nations since which is why we haven't really heard about it. Releases in US July 2tth according to wiki.

According to Wikipedia,
Director Danny Boyle, upon completion of Sunshine, said that he would not revisit the science fiction genre, citing production as a spiritually exhausting experience.

Boyle sort of reminds me of Arthur C. Clarke (author of 2001, Rendezvous with Rama, 2010, etc). Clarke and Boyle both really delve into the psychological side of space and I find that the most intriguing part of their works. Rendezvous with Rama is a great book if you eve get your hands on it. Some astronauts are sent to investigate a massive cylinder about to slingshot around the sun. Once inside the cylinder, Clarke did an AMAZING job displaying the thin fabric of human psychology. When inside a massive cylinder that's kilometers upon kilometers big in diameter and even longer than it is wide, which way is up? How do you even visualize that? The very concept puts humans on the verge of mental breakdown, fighting for rationalization of what they see. Clarke kicked ass.

In Sunshine, the crew is like 7 people. Humanity's last hope to save the world. And it's actually humanity's second attempt to save the sun (the first attempt "failed"). Can you imagine what it would feel like to be the one responsible for any magnitude of mistake? I thought Boyle captured that well, too.

Annyyhowwww.... Great movie. :D Hope you enjoy it as well.

I had high expectations when I saw it at the movies, but after seeing it I was disappointed. It was way too long, and the plot was tired. It was like that movie Core, except they kick started the sun instead of the earth, and Sunshine took itself a lot more seriously.
