Hi guys,

Just got my first client, by sending around a few emails to businesses in my local area.

And that by only selling business card designs, wasn't that difficult to do either. I am charging a small retainer, but it has a lot of potential because I don't have to do that much with it, after making the business cards.

You can take a look at my blog if you want to know more about it: My first client
If you have any ideas on how I can improve the design/ service, just let me know. Like trying to upsell to additional services etc.

Make sure that your design is something that only you have exclusive rights too. Retention.
Ok, Now, Since that is done,
Get more clients you bastard.

Interested in seeing how it turns out. My dad used to work for a printing company that did mainly biz cards.

QR codes are a godsend. I would put one on my kid so somebody could scan him and return him home if he got lost if it was legal.
Could put them on bracelets, necklaces, waterproof stickers that go on the tags of their clothes, the tag on the underside of the tongue of their shoes. Could probably sell these like crazy and charge a monthly fee for a listing on a website, ie: lose the subscription and the codes are useless.

This smells so much like a thinly veiled attempt to get blog readers.

Then again I have never heard of a QR code, so I learned something new and didn't neg you. ;)

Edit: this made me lol. About 5 years too late.

Would you instantly scan the code if you got such a card?

Well, yeah. Get card, scan code, save contact, throw card in garbage. Done!

Besides, you're missing the point. QR codes are good for shit like, "scan here to see if you won a free Plasma TV!"

QR codes are retarded. The general public has no idea what they are or what they do. Yes smartphones can scan them but only if they have a QR reader, QR readers do not come with the phone they have to know about them and download a program. I have seen multiple studies about how 90%+ of the population has no idea what they are or do. QR codes are just for nerds by nerds. Its going to be a long time until they are mainstream (in the US).

Unless they score some deals with major manufacturers. If say Apple pushed a QR reader app on their phone by default then I'm sure people would get a clue as to what they were.

The question is, what's in it for them?

QR codes have been in use in Asia for a long time. They're on everything where I live. They print them in the classifieds section of the paper so you can use your smartphone to go right to an advertiser's webpage. They put them on billboards, sides of buildings, in all sorts of print media. People use them. Not sure how consumers in developing countries got more technically savvy than U.S. consumers but there it is.
