I've been a customer with Hostgator for 7 months now and today I woke up to find out that all of my websites were offline (all of them were displaying a message that the account had been suspended). Horrified, I contacted Hostgator in order to find out wtf was going on. It turned out that there was a problem with my credit card and they couldn't charge it.
Now, of course they have the right to suspend an overdue account but, the problem is, I NEVER got an email telling me that there was a problem with my account. I never got a warning, NOTHING. Not even an email telling me that my account was about to be suspended.
The worst part is that is that, instead of apologizing, they blame me for not keeping my email up to date (my email has been the same since I first registered with them).
Anyways, I've lost around $150 so far because of this and, instead of an apology, I get a finger pointed at me. Better be careful if you're thinking about hosting your websites with them.
Lessons learned:
1) always keep a local backup of your websites.
2) don't keep all of your websites on the same hosting company
3) don't go with HOSTGATOR. Their customer service sucks.
