I've been a customer with Hostgator for 7 months now and today I woke up to find out that all of my websites were offline (all of them were displaying a message that the account had been suspended). Horrified, I contacted Hostgator in order to find out wtf was going on. It turned out that there was a problem with my credit card and they couldn't charge it.

Now, of course they have the right to suspend an overdue account but, the problem is, I NEVER got an email telling me that there was a problem with my account. I never got a warning, NOTHING. Not even an email telling me that my account was about to be suspended.

The worst part is that is that, instead of apologizing, they blame me for not keeping my email up to date (my email has been the same since I first registered with them).

Anyways, I've lost around $150 so far because of this and, instead of an apology, I get a finger pointed at me. Better be careful if you're thinking about hosting your websites with them.

Lessons learned:
1) always keep a local backup of your websites.
2) don't keep all of your websites on the same hosting company
3) don't go with HOSTGATOR. Their customer service sucks.

4) pay your fucking hosting bill so you don't get shut down.

I've been with hostgator for awhile, and they're not perfect. But I can't fault them for shutting down a hosting account when there's a problem with your fucking credit card.

Anybody will shut down your account for not paying, and I know HostGator does not shut down accounts the minute your card does not work.

You should know which date you need to pay for your various accounts - if it does not get charged, you should contact them and find out what's wrong, especially with something as important as hosting.

I have had problems with payments and Hostgator too. I paid with paypal and the payment was being held to clear for some reason. Maybe my bank cc info was not current. Whatever...

While the payment was clearing paypal they redirected all my sites and charged me a late fee becuase it had not cleared by the due date. Because of the late fee when the payment cleared the next day it was not enough. They would not refund the late fee or just put it on the next bill. Sites still down.

Umm I moved all my accounts because I thought they are rude with payment matters. If they don't like paypal delays don't take paypal and don't close accounts waiting for the payment to clear.

OP = idiot for using hostgator in the first place.

Actually, they MUST know by now that most of their 'customers' (aka 'rips') are morons, so why the hell do they get upset when one of these morons fucks up his cc or email???
