Is putting pictures next to ads ok? Look what Google's doing

I've heard that Google was testing this out, but this is the first time I've seen Google inserting images next to Adsense ads...

Yeah, but that's the site owners placing pictures next to the ads. We're talking about Google putting in images next to the adds.
 
I dont think googles ever had a problem with people putting images next to ads aslong as there not close. Only ypn who have a problem with it. Googles been testing using there own images for a while now i think.
 
Ironically Google don't do it as well as the indepenendent publishers. Is the image a paid advert or just for decoration?
 
I think that you're not allowed to put them there as a publisher; but it really depends on how you're doing it. Like putting a half banner/button ad beside the picture of the cover of a CD.

The difference between you and google putting images in the ads, is you'll just have a randomly selected image fitting the general context of your site; however, Google can display better contexted ads.
