Hey, just wondering how many of you actually own an SEO website that you make money from it, and how much? I was thinking of making SEO sites to promote bizopps, anti-wrinkle and diet products. Let me know your opinion.

Generic Answer: if it didn't make money people wouldn't do it.

Answer for PPC peeps: You have to build the landing pages anyways so you might as well build them for SEO. If it ranks you'll be likely to make way more money from it then you could with PPC if it doesn't you at least get to see its conversion rates. I just started in PPC last october. It was real up and down at the beginning but then I started going through my niche money sites i already had built for SEO and i looked at the ones that got the highest conversion rates and I threw them up on search with a list of their ideal keywords. Since they all were already aged, had great links and great content they all got high QS so they ranked good and got cheap clicks. They already were high converting so I didn't have to waste any money testing or adjusting them. Not only that but they already were making money so it was as if they were funding their own PPC. So it was basically like instant free money with very little actual work. I'm not going to say how much i'm actually making with PPC currently and I don't consider it a primary source of income yet but to be honest and not in a bragful way it's actually more than many people on this forum who specialize just in PPC and have been systematically working their way up for years in it. I attribute that quick climb entirely to SEO. So all else fails it definitely won't hurt your PPC efforts.

I find a nice mixture of SEO and PPC/PPV can work wonders, on my SEO'd sites I like to have a few posts that are generally extra salesy so I can push PPC traffic to those exact pages, flog/farticle style works.

The thing about SEO is that it takes time, and a loooong time. Your not just gonna jump to the first page of google for bizz ops or wrinkle/diet, especially with the competition out there.

Did your sites already have to pass a manual review by an adwords rep?

My experience with sites that did very well SEO wise is, that once an adwords rep decides to slap the campaign, the site (not the whole domain) disappears from the SERPs as well. Curious if this has already happend to you.

Do you have a strong call to action with an aff link on the page or more some kind of unconspicuous banners? Hope you don't mind to share ;)

Thats a tough question to answer. During that time I did have sites get slapped in the serps, but they were related sites and some of them i took off ppc long before they got slapped. So um yes technically some of the sites that were being run on adwords did get slapped in the SERPS and some of the campaigns in adwords got slapped campaign wise, but I can't recall any that got slapped in both. It is possible though. I think there was one that got its campaign in adwords slapped, like it started getting no impressions out of nowhere, then a couple weeks later got a -40 penalty in the serps. I wasn't really watching out for it or took the time to notice any patterns so I can't say for certain.

The only surefire way to make $ with SEO is to charge others a fee for SEOing their websites.

Too many disadvantages to it, including:
- Google Sandbox on new websites
- You still get slapped, albeit not via a human being, when algo's change
- Too much waiting involved for re-indexing and sites to rank and move up

Sure, IF your keywords get top positioning, you make incredible money. Who wants a business model based on an IF? And what happens when the next re-index moves you to Page 2?

There are very few people I know killing it with SEO legally except black hatters. We OWN an SEO business and it does ok as I have some SEO engineers on staff who think they know what they're doing. We've never even once set up a biz model to do SEO for ourselves, it's the slow boat to China.

In short, stay far away. Become an emailer. Control your destiny, don't let others control you.

Good to know even Eli gets slapped ;)

What I'm saying is PPC resp. adwords can potentially hurt your SEO rankings.

SEO is the only way to go... Once you get an seo site going and liked by search engines it just keeps going and going unlike any ppc campaign... I only work with SEO now!

Yeah, but the barrier to entry is way higher and the knowhow can't be found all over the web like in SEO.

Follow the email forums here and you'll get a first class lesson in what to do, and what not to do. Seriously, if you read the WF email forums youll make your first million by end of the week.

Just do the math dude...

Decide for yourself.. not hard.

SEO is all about the right place, at the right time.

I will tell you that thanks solely to red_virus's social bookmarking on here (and RIGHT PLACE, RIGHT TIME) a diet site of mine that was launched in the April-June time frame last year and was a SINGLE LANDING PAGE with zero SEO work done to it made over $35k in pure profit after sling shotting into extremely high ranking position for a very popular search term.

Right place- right time but this was of course just icing on the cake given it was a ppc landing page.
