I've got an old unlocked 3G iPhone, but the battery is barely holding charge and I've beat it to hell so it's time for a new phone. It just pisses me off to pay $600+ for a new iPhone 4 on ebay. I've got better shit to spend $600 bucks on, but now that I've had an iphone for 2 years, I just can't switch to anything else.

Someone convince me that it's worth the dough so I can just buy the fucker already and have a working phone again. If it's not, I'm just going to get a 3GS and save the $$.

Sold my iPhone 3GS for the iPhone 4, definitely worth it. Sold my old iPhone 3GS for $400 on eBay and made back the money I spent upgrading times 2.

I know what you mean about switching, I don't think I'll ever own another phone. Been had iPhone since the 1st generation one came out.

Retina display alone makes it worth it. HD video recording, face time etc makes it far superior to the 3GS

I did an upgrade from a 3G phone a few months ago so I'll give you my two cents.

The thing that jump out most is the new screen and overall phone "snappiness". This phone is really fast, the 3G is a turtle next to this thing. If you are using web browsing etc... this should be pretty useful to you.

If you are looking for a phone with new options etc... I can't really say the IPhone 4 brings anything new to the table. There are alot of phones out there with more features.

So basically, you are paying $600+ for a really fast IPhone and a really nice display. I'd only recommend it if you don't care about blowing the $600+ cash for it.

I'm glad to hear someone say it's quicker, because the 3G sits there spinning it's wheels forever on a lot of things. That pisses me off the most, when things just aren't fast.

4 is a lot faster and I never really thought I cared about a camera until I upgraded.

I have the 3G, and it's almost useless after that last software upgrade. I'm going to re-up with AT&T hopefully this weekend (I want it before ad:tech), so mine will only be $200 bucks with a 2 year contract.

I have a 3GS and it's a fast lil guy. I'd actually recommend that instead and wait for the 4 to lower in price. I have another 6 months on this contract until I can upgrade to a 4 for $200. The picture quality and the video capability (being able to video talk with a fellow 4 user) is pretty wicked.

I wouldn't get it unless you have the extra cash to blow or you have a full upgrade available, not that early upgrade bullshit. The only difference I noticed so far is the second camera (awesome quality) and shitty signal when I'm at home.

Yeah. Luckily I have t-mobile, so I just unlock it's good to go. T-Mobile service is actually really good in So. Cal.

I have an unlocked 3G that I use with T-mobile as well, it's the best of both worlds in my opinion. I wouldn't mind getting an iPhone 4 myself but is it easy to get them unlocked yet?

Yeah, the iPhone Dev-Team did the ultrasn0w unlock and jailbreak for 4 a while ago.

not worth it. The best feature of the iphone4 is the led flashlight. Other than that it is a little faster, little sharper, but nothing over the top as far as features or performance.
I had a 3gs, upgraded, then sold the 4 and moved back to 3gs as I didn't love it enough to turn down the cash.

I had the iPhone 2G, 3GS and now the iPhone 4. Between the 2G and the 3GS, I actually didn't see that much of a difference. But between the iPhone 4 and the 3GS, there are a bunch of things that I love with the 4. As others have mentioned, it's much faster, and doesn't crash as often as the earlier generations, especially when you restart the phone. Before it would take like a minute or two to restart the phone, with the 4, it's like 25-30 seconds.

What I love the most would have to be the retina display. The shit is so fucking clear, especially the apps that are built to support the display too. I could hold the phone 4 feet away from me and perfectly read the text of the screen, awhile with the earlier generations, it would be like 2 feet at most. Anyhow, the display got me sold completely.

Lastly, the camera got a huge improvement. I gave my 3GS to my girl, and whenever she takes a picture with it, and I take a picture with my 4, there is a remarkable difference. It's much clearer on the 4.

I'm also a huge fan of the box shape the 4 has.

I think AT&T will upgrade your iPhone for people whose contracts are up in 2010, regardless of what month your contract is up. From what I read, this was a power play of them trying to retain users just incase Verizon gets the iPhone contract in the spring (in addition to AT&T).

Ditto. Got $350 for selling my 3GS on CL, but still made $150 profit since I got it for $199.

As mentioned. retina display alone makes it worth it -- once you've looked at the 4g for a while the 3GS screen looks fuzzy. Faster chip, HD video recording, fabulous camera, face time, thinner profile etc make it worthwhile upgrade IMHO

Main difference I noticed between the 3GS and iphone 4

- display is MUCH sharper
- form factor (smaller and easier to fit in pocket)
- better camera
- faster processor

If all of the above does not matter much to you, stick with the 3GS

Apple FTW
Got my iPhone 4 replaced twice for free due to water damage and cracked screen. I got no insurance too. Not much companies will do that, if any.
