Interracial couple denied marriage license

Beat 'em by about 45 minutes actually on the news.

It's now all over the local news stations here. This one is spreading like wildfire. Should be fun. Cue Sharpton in 5, 4, 3...

Yeah, just noticed mine was a double post. Whoops.

"Cue Sharpton in 5, 4, 3..."
Between Rush and this... They will be having all sorts of fun this week.

Please be joking so I don't have to shove my foot up your ass.

Nope, not joking. You can't shove your foot up my ass, tough. Thanks for proving my point.

He is an elected official and has a right to deny marriage licenses. This is common in same-sex marriages.

So, if what he did was inside the boundaries of the law, why should he "be fired" and lose is pension?

His explanation is actually true. Interracial marriages do have a substantially higher probability of divorce.

I happen not to agree with the guy, but I don’t think his life should be destroyed because of that. He didn’t break the law and the couple can still marry.

Now you can be stupid and ban me or whatever.

He didn't break any criminal codes but what he did is against the law.

Well, I have a few opinions about this that people might not be able to reconcile. But try to. I don't agree with the guy's policy, and in fact I have family members who have interracial marriages which have worked out just fine for years - so I don't believe in his reasoning either. But I still believe he's right and the witch-hunters in the media are wrong.

No one should have to do something he believes to be wrong/harmful. (In general.) This guy believes it's detrimental to perform interracial marriages, so he morally feels it's wrong.

The guy doesn't seem to have animosity toward interracial couples and. On the local news, Jennifer Hale (who is hot) interviewed the guy and he said he's always had this policy, but always refers the couples to another Justice of the Peace to perform the ceremonies.

On the contrary, they showed the local ACLU representative (who is NOT hot), and almost immediately she said the liberal catchphrase words "hate" and "racist". Well, as much as I don't agree with this Justice's policy, I'm not willing to jump to the conclusion that he's full of hate or is a racist. Maybe he's just a wrong-thinking guy with convictions. I would like to first learn the facts and then apply some thinking to the situation.

What happened here is the couple got offended, called the news, and now it's provided some great fodder for the media and for the sensitivity-enforcers in our society who can't stand anyone stepping out of line. It could have happened anywhere, but it was a bonus that it was in Louisiana.
