I get a lot of stupid junk mail to my house promoting some ridiculous pink sheet stocks (pink sheet stocks are typically companies who can't stand up to the strict standards that the NYSE, and other regional exchanges require to be listed)- 'This stock could run up 60000% over the next ten days!!!', etc. All sent out by people who own the stock themselves - its a very grey area of investing, where as long as you disclose that you own the shares somewhere in the pamplet, you can write what you want about the stock... usually the discalimer is in tiny text somewhere at the bottom of one page.
Anyway - I got one the other day that I kept for a reason- it is promoting a youtube like video site, tubearoo.com - ??? exactly.
Now this is actually a publicly traded pink sheet stock - ticker TUBR. I thought this pamphlet was interesting because it serves a dual purpose for the company- it of course does what all of these things do, scam stupid people into investing in their company - but it also was a huge traffic driver for the site.
Related Info for: tubearoo.com/
You can immediately see when the pamplet was sent out by the large surge in traffic.
Thought I would share this with you guys- after I stopped laughing at the ridiculous promises they were making about this company 'Having huge upside potential of 600% or more this year!' , I started thinking that this actually did a lot for the site. Now I have no idea how much $$$ this company spent on this mailing, and getting your business set up as a public company isn't easy, but I thought it was an interesting example of an alternative way to drive site traffic - via traditional snail mail instead of the SPAM, PPC, and other ways we are usually used to!
