ICANN approves creation of branded TLDs

Will it actually have a significant effect on the average affiliate marketer though?

everyone building their "brands" will create a huge clusterfuck. Granted, some companies like Apple could use this to their advantage since they are big and a closed environment, but for the small guy it's an uphill battle.

ICANN board member Sebastien Bachollet, who was in favour of the proposal, said "some people feel that the new gTLDs will cause confusion."

But he added: "I trust we have the tools to ensure the phase of stress will be brief."

another "Lets make some monies" change by ICANN. wonder how much will they charge for these branded names, no fucking way $10.

They cost 180k.

yea, just to apply. theres no guarantee you'll get it.

so you're a company in the auto parts industry and want to register .hondaparts. and a competitor wants that domain too. you both pay the fee, and apply with a proposal as to why you're the better fit. then some clown decides who gets it.

Am I the only one that thinks this is going to fizzle out, having almost no impact on anybody without a big time corporation?
