I just dont get google

So I just don't get google, I have a one page site on 10 megs of webspace that my ISP provides me with a shitty name home.iprimus.... and so on

That damn site has a higher page rank and gets more hits then my 4 year old website that has a bucket load of back links to it.

To cap off my confusion my new site which i started about 5 days ago got my first hit from google today with the search term ticket giveaway. Like WTF!!! I don't have the fricking word ticket on my site at all.

Would this be affected by what might be on some of the sites that are linking to me? If not I got no idea what is going on and I got to laugh at myself for spending so much time on content with my keywords and I end with something completely obscure

I can't really tell you the why behind the term "ticket giveaway", but I do know that google ranks older sites quite low if they haven't be updated very often. Also google tends to notice 'link farms' and would rank those and the sites lower.

I had my own oddity a while back, started ipodtouchanswers.com on the 18th, a day or so later I was already getting organic google hits (I had only been promoting the site on yahoo answers and that was it), So from the 18th to today, I've had over 6K pageviews and over 3,600 unique visits, bout 30% of those were google organic traffic.

I'm guess wordpress has something to do with it since I also got the sitemap generator plugin which also submits to google, ask.com, yahoo and a few others whenever I post a new new article.

What kind of content do you have on your ISP provided website, and is it software like wordpress which is generally setup pretty well for SEO.
 
lol my isp site is one page hard coded html via notepad and has been getting constant traffic for 5 years, in that time it has only been updated about 3 times, but those updates have been full overhauls of the site.
 
Well the first one is easy to explain, iprimus has "authority" while your 4 year old site is among the millions of websites with no "authority". Thats really the only good thing a dialup account is for, free hosting on a well aged and high PR authority website for $10 per month.
