How would I give my blog a standalone index page?

My theme wasn't really designed to do this, but I'd like to have a standalone index page (using page template from theme) and move blog index page to /blog/ - everything else can remain the same.

How would I do this?

Some of the wordpress themes come with their own panel where you can set it to either Static page or blog roll...etc.

But if that doesn't work, you can perhaps modify the .htaccess to go after an index.HTML instead of the index.PHP.

There is lots of documentation on the web about how to do that.

Don't modify your .htaccess. zdmyn is correct.
