whenever I find a valuable document or file by searching on google, such as:

http://www.vikinggroupinc.com/literature/TDR-4124

and then I reckon well http://www.vikinggroupinc.com/literature/ must have loads of valuable stuff that might be similar to this, I truncate the URL and then I get access denied, is there a trick around this?

example:

http://www.vikinggroupinc.com/literature/

no there is no trick to getting around this. The web administrator made the directory non-readable. You can go to Google and do put this in the search to get results "site:http://www.vikinggroupinc.com/literature/"

that will return all of the indexed pages Google has been able to find in the "literature" directory for you.

Good luck bros.
