Newb here, very excited about this forum and the promise of boobies...

My situation: I'm currently ranked 5th in G for my main keyword. The #1 Result is some stupid website that has: "X is temporarily offline. Please check back with us soon."

I've been building up backlinks, SEO, etc. But this beached fucking whale is just sitting there, has been for weeks.

Can anyone provide me with some dynamite? There's no reason this shithead should be sitting up top. It has a PR of 4, but I've got 0 and am already sitting above a PR5.

Thanks for your help, and yes, I did pick a gay sn on purpose.

How old is your domain name compared to theirs? You'll sometimes find yourself getting stuck just because your domain is new and theirs is old.

If they really have a single page maintenance lander though, just start getting more backlinks. Do an article submit with Red_Virus, start posting a few dozen blog comments every day, bookmark everything, and do a drip directory submit.

You need to make Google notice you.

yes, I did pick a gay sn on purpose.

...are you gay? Am I gay? What's the purpose?

Thanks for your reply. I'm following all the stuff you've mentioned, and have been pretty good at climbing the SERPs - I'm guessing within a month or two I'll be in the top 3. It's just fucking frustrating that that #1 spot is basically parked by a content-less shell.

I realize now that asking for this sort of help ("Hey, there's a website that's the #1 result! Help me get rid of it!") is a little retarded. I was just wondering if there were resources to knock it off the search results, or at least out of 1st place. Maybe if I ping it over and over again?

I'm not interested in using this power for evil - but I recognize that in the wrong hands it certainly could be used that way. If you have the Machiavellian means but aren't comfortable publicly posting it, I'll take a PM.

Trust me, it's one of the biggest myths in link building that too many links/pings/whatevers will get you knocked out of Google. That would simply be too easy to take down competitors if it were true.

Now, that doesn't mean that a shit ton of spammy comments on spammy sites that have had the IP reported as a spammer won't get you in trouble, but for nearly all cases, you need to focus on what you can do to improve your link profile, not how you can take down your competitors by fucking with them.

I would just keep building up good high quality links, link wheels, submit articles, and ping the hell out of all of your stuff so that Google takes notice of your site. If you have a blog, start posting there everyday and ping those posts to show them you're active.

Get the spiders on your site and you'll eventually move up there.

Did you check the domain age?

The domain age of your competitor is important. You have to check it out. And more so, you need to check the quality of backlinks your competitor has acquired. This is in terms of page rank and authority.

Let's say for example, your competitor has backlinks from sites with PR of 1-4. You would have to work to surpass the number of backlinks he's got and acquire PR 1-5 and even 6 if possible. Make sure you outnumber him in terms of quality backlinks. But then, you have to spy on his links first and see what is making him retain his ranking up there.

A good tool i recommend is Market Samurai and Keyword Elite 2.0

Hope this helps.

I use SEOQuake plugin for Firefox. Pasted the #1's details below.

I am building up backlinks, etc. The site definitely has age on its side (it's almost 6 years old, and therefore 6 years older than mine). But I've beaten other sites with higher age and PR. I should add that while my domain is keyword.com keywords use your keywords to GO direct to web pages and files., I'm 5th for broad results and 2nd for exact - and this other site doesn't have the keyword in the domain!

The website's SEOQuake info is below (copied and pasted, sorry if it looks ugly)
SeoQuake: PR: 4 I: 87
AOP
L: 206
AOP
LD: 236 I: 9Rank: 1781368 Age: Aug 17, 2004 I: 4

Yeah, the website's 6 years old, meaning it's 6 years older than me. It's got a PR of 4. But I'm sitting above older websites with higher PR.

I'm just going to relax and continue the article/link-building. I appreciate your help, I figured there was a simple solution to this problem. Perhaps in time G will notice it and kick that fucker to the curb.

Like I said, it's just frustrating that as I've climbed the Google ranks there's this light at the end of the tunnel blocked by some retard whose website has been dead for who knows how long? Why the fuck is it still there??
