Forgive me if this is in the wrong area...

How do you create your LP to have the users ISP IP show the town that they are in? In other words when you go to a LP and it says "Hi I am Mary from "the visitors town", I lost weight by sucking numerous dicks for coke"

Whats the code to get that to work?

Be careful with that. I can tell who cheaped out on their geo-ip database because every free one I've seen gets my location wrong. They always place me about thirty miles away in the next town over.

Needless to say, when I see that, it sticks out like a sore thumb and I immediately think "marketing scheme."

Vinny is right BTW - if your prospect is is Manhattan Island NY or Buckhead GA, 30 miles might as well be 3000. I just randomly pick one of the nearby cities and say "Hello from Cityname" so I get something within a drivable distance.YMMV.

That's only cuz you know, people who know don't convert anyway.

Actually, I see it getting a laugh out of most anyone who sees it. Think about that... entire towns not converting because of your silly trick you cheaped out on. Now there are geo IP databases that place my IP correctly, and those seem to work just fine.

But it's like too many shitty magicians performing a trick. Eventually, the crowd figures it out and even the good magicians have to abandon the trick.

Or the Hare Krishna in the airport. Now people are conscious of cheap reciprocity tricks. Same principle.

I prefer doing the state only.

You get weird comments if you match up with a small town. Most people will get real suspicious and know it's a scam, and then you have the weirdos that want to meet you at a coffee shop and hear the story in person. Saying you're from their state accomplishes the same thing.

Actually 30 miles away is damn near a direct hit for where I live. The nearest "city" is about 60 miles away, and a city you have actually heard of is over 200 miles away.

You ever think your ISP is located there? I have ATT DSL and my town always shows up at a big city 70+ miles away.
