How to best search Wickedfire?

Okay, I'm not exactly a newbie, but this sounds much like a newbie question. I like to search before I post because most questions have already been asked and answered 1000 times. Reading an old post is way faster than writing a new one and then waiting for others to reply.

Problem:
  • Search feature here sucks donkeyballs. No phrase search. Anything shorter than 4 characters excluded. (try searching for any of the "202" products!) Sort by date only, not relevance.
  • Outside search engines with the "site:wickedfire.com" switch don't work because the most interesting sections aren't indexed.

Any other ideas?

I like to search titles (though you do miss some gem conversations, the recent viral video thread is a prime example of off-topic convos on a sucky thread that turned useful) because I have found that sometimes what you want is hidden beneath a plethora of irrelevant threads which just happen to contain a term in them if you search posts too.

I realize that doesn't do much in the way of saying "hey, use this scraper product I made", but it saved me a ton of time when I noticed the checkbox. I also tend to only select the likely forums instead of searching all of them.

Oh, and you can do phrase searches using "Advanced Search". You can even use "quotes" if you know something will appear together.

That's not what I see. There's no checkbox or anything in advanced search to treat search terms as phrase. Unless I'm blind or something.

And if I put it in quotes, say "awesome phrase", the result page says:
Search: Keyword(s): "awesome, phrase"
Clearly treats the words separately, which you can confirm by looking at the results. They're just as likely to have "awesome" separate from "phrase".

Title search may help a little, like you said. Thanks! But you're bound to miss out on a lot.

i just google it= phrase wicked fire
works perfectly for all forums, it gives an option to click for all results from wicked fire, and i always find what i need on 1st page results.

No, it doesn't.

Like I wrote above, search engines don't index the most interesting sections. You won't find any posts in the Affiliate Marketing forum, for instance. And if you look at the robots.txt file, you see why - some forums like The Art Of Mailing are specifically blocked from web spiders.

This site runs on vBulletin. I'm not familiar with its backend, but I'd be surprised if there wasn't an extension/plugin or something that provides better search. Jon??

have to agree with the op, the search function on wf sucks donkeys balls.

lost count of the hours i have lost trying to find a specific thread I forgot to subscribe to at the time. then when you do find it it has the exact terms you used in your search function, yet the search function told you there was no threads matching your search
