How safe is ALN?

a friend recently referred me to ALN and the Frobark Labs spin service. Overall, I like what I see, and reviews tend to be positive, but I've also come across some disgruntled ex-ALNers who got themselves de-indexed/penalized using it. I'm up for using it aggressively on a couple of my own affiliate sites, but a little hesitant to go full force for clients. Is it your sense that these folks just didn't diversify link sources well enough? Or better yet, to all you ALN users out there, how do you use it safely when you're working with relatively new sites? Thanks in advance.

From my experience is works well, but you need to diversify your links. I wouldn't use it on client sites because the network is a bunch of shit blogs with links pointing out.

I use Frobark also. I can't say anything bad about it.

Are you referring to link type diversity or keyword diversity?

Link type diversity.

But if you're asking it like that, you need both.

I started using the service about 2 weeks ago and today in fact 3 sites that are clients sites that were holding pretty steady for months in the top 3 on page one are now on page 2, 3 4 etc. I don't know what to think.

I would say it's about as safe as any form of manipulating Google for a that sweet honey nectar link juice... It's still working on a couple ecommerce sites well for me. But it's like 1 form of many I throw at my sites and clients sites.

I use a lot of private blogs and social bookmarking services. 2 of the sites were doing well in Google Places on page 1 now both have been kicked out. I am hoping it is temporary. I am still using the ALN service on sites I own to see how it all plays out, but I have canceled them on the client sites.

how much anchor diversity did you have? and what other, if any, link building were you doing on them?

I have only been using it for 2 weeks so I was spinning about 5 keywords for each domain. I am also using some blog networks as well. The ALN service was the only new link building I was doing.

I am sure they will bounce back, it was just a shock to see them gone off the first page. I added the ALN thinking it would help secure that #1 spot. I am going to beef up some of the other things I am doing and I am sure they will be right back there again.

This is all good. thank you.

Anyone care to comment on what they do to keep G away when using ALN? Just regular updates to content?

Simple don't use ALN, that's if you really think something is going to happen to your site. I would NOT worry. The changes put WAY more emphasis on your site than the links pointing at it. You also have to think, if they really penalized hard on any form of link building, many competitors could be attacked by it. I know that is a huge topic of debate, but I really, just provide a good experience on your site and you should be good to go!

Agreed.

Instead of asking "is it safe", ask "is this a good investment?" I doubt Google looks at sites on ALN and says "Aha - penalize them" as much as it might just not count the links anymore on the sites they're identified. Otherwise everyone would just be loading up ALN with all their competitors.

Dont listen to any of these people!

I've used ALN and every site I submit to it gets a -50 penality and then around 35 days later, it gets deindexed forever.

Also after I got deindexed Matt Cutts called my cell phone and I heard him making fart noises into the mic and calling me names.

STAY AWAY FROM ALN!!! YOU WILL GET INTERNET AIDS!

I am using ALN, but but the argument of you can't harm sites will links coz you competitors can harm you is not quite valid anymore..

I have sent shit links to a some competitors and they have been pushed down quite easily.. and with redirects, it is such fun :)
Unless the competition is a authority site... but simple EMDs with a few high PR links, and sbb and such.... Nuking them is oh so easy..

I want google to correct that flaw so we all should be doing this more :D

I use Frobark as well and have seen mixed results. After an initial upward movement on sites I've added, I have noticed a negative trend over time, regardless of the number of keywords used in the spintax or the quality of the link profile of the site when starting the service.

In my opinion the issue is not the quality of the link or ALN itself but rather the fact that these posts get indexed and then fall out of the index a few weeks later. Open up your Frobark report and click on the footprint to see what is indexed - it slowly goes up for a week then over time it drops off. Check some of your submissions from 2 months ago and you'll see that sometimes your original 10 indexed posts drops to 3 (or worse). I think that getting a large amount of links deindexed in this fashion is causes some sort of trust issue.

If you want to play it safe, get 20 solid t1 properties and load them into the account and link to them with related anchor text rather than linking to the money site directly.
