how much would you still pay for generic domains like carpool.com or propertymarket.com
you know two worders that make sense?

I'm asking because I used to buy a lot on sedo years back, worked out well for me then and I have a few very good two worders that ranked easy from day one for these terms.
Since google seems to not care about the domain name so much any more, and I want to buy a new one,
I don't know if I can still justify a few K for a name when you could just spend it on links and content.

how much would you drop for a domain name, just because of the name, and age without any backlinks or preexisting content history?

The decision would be completely dependant on strategy. Wether you are interested in building a brand or just getting some rankings.
If your whole strategy is based on ranking in Google, I personally would not bother.

thanks for that input, it's the same what I was thinking, you can build a brand well with just one keyword or none too.
those few thousand dollars could be spent on ranking and i'm guessing will in the end return more than just having the keywords in the domain, even though it'd make a good brandname too.
used to think of just the generic terms but I'm right when I understood from some threads here that this doesn't work anymore?

You can brand anything... Carpool.com or CarPoolio.com

It makes no difference. If it is a 1 word domain with type in traffic, then ya it makes sense to buy a domain. But if you are talking about spending 50K on a 2 word domain. I would buy something new and brandable ie. not 4UtoCarpool.com and spend the 50K on making your site bad ass, PR and outreach.

i just registered the two worder with back and front switched.
was more about 4,725k, and 2k for a 2nd related two worder, registered in 2003 too, but never used.
but yeah, I'll follow your advice,
gonna spend that now on branding
will post something in the newbie section see how these go

thanks you two!
