This should be a fun topic, How much did you guys earn in your very first year at making money online?

Here's a good one - my first year taking clients and programming, it was back in 2000. I worked for a lady designer for an entire year practically full time. I got so sucked in and so screwed over, that by the time I finally quit I had made $1800 and she had bought me a new budget-grade computer. That's it. Did I ever learn some valuable lessons. Sheesh I was so brainwashed by her. Basically the promise of big money didn't come, and she never felt the job was done - she just kept adding more programming tasks, more features she thought the site needed, dangling the idea of big money in front of my nose. It was a sub-contract that was a large dating site, full of features, and I was built the entire thing myself, learning as I went. I even coded an instant messenger system for it that was rather revolutionary at that time. Unfortunately her client we were building it for hadn't budgeted a penny for marketing and shortly after I walked the project folded.

Lessons Learned:
1. Clients suck.
2. Someone will always try to take advantage of you.
3. Have a contract that spells out exactly what you will earn and what needs to be accomplished to have a finished product.
4. Just because you are a newbie doesn't mean you should work for nothing.
5. At the same time, you have to wonder why someone is hiring you as a newbie with practically no experience.
6. Hold out for cash, don't get paid in computers.
7. Living in your mother's basement, earning pennies, working day and night, isn't good for the waistline, nor the self-esteem.

A year? holy shit.

My first "year" I was in college, still had a part time job, probably made under $1,000. Quite my part time job half way through the year, but I still spent much of my time in/on school stuff. I made a lot of mistakes but learned a lot too.

i'll count this year as my first year, as i've never had a steady website before this year.

made about $1,000 so far.

probably around $900, through design work. I couldve done much better with design work and could still do better. I have so many requests for work but things sometimes go sour...

Hmm first year, i would say 17k,, I was working for UPS and got pissed off and quit my job. Then I was like oh shit what am I gonna do for some cash. So i started signing up for every money making thing on the web. 18 hours a day for about 9 months..lol. Less than minimum wage..lmao

I don't really know when my first year was but I will say the last was: $xx,xxx. I made my last year's revenues in 2 months this year :).

Nada. I didn't make any money for 2 years. Then I suddenly made about $50.00 in a month from an ancient ad network that killed themselves by changing their rules.

hmm . .can not remember really and I was not incorporated then either so I do not have any papers to look it up really either.

A couple of $100 I guess, but that was when I as 15 and the Internet was definately not what it is today he he.
Firs year of my first company I made maybe $10 000.

About $3,500 from Yahoo groups. Then I started to look more in other ways the make money online like SEO, etc.

What about you JON? ;)

90k in the first year -- which is finishing up about now.

Started making money right out of the box, ugly website I did myself. Retail, health related site. I really thought "wow, this internet thing is pretty fucking easy..."

But.. the money was bigger in the beginning. I've tested and tested, changed, updated, beautified... nothing works. It just seems to be a steady downward trend that I can't stop.

Yeah, I know, boohoo =)

Launched a few sites in the last year, only the first one has had any positive income. So...I am kinda back at square one, hoping to learn from the best!
