How long was it until you got your first client, and how did you do it?

I have just started out as a freelancer, and it already seems impossible for me get a client. I offered 5 free services to the first 5 clients, but no one still hasn't responded yet even WHEN THE "FIRST FIVE" GETS THEM FREE... So this make me wonder how long it will be until I get my first client.

How long was it until you got your first client, and how did you achieve it?

Dude, how can anyone respond to you properly if you don't even state what service it is you are offering?

I'm not sure if it's the best approach. But I guess it's a good way of getting initial feedback and experience working with clients.

I had a fake portfolio and had my first client within 7 days of running a PPC campaign.

Where do you plan on getting clients online or offline?
 
So, you posted a thread and are waiting for clients to come?

Clients don't come to you, you have to go get them.

Initiate contact - how many people have you cold called/emailed today?
