I have my eye on a domain that expired the 13th of last month. Anyone know how long godaddy keeps the domain?

Depends if they follow the standard expiry process for the name or not. Expect about 40-45 days from the expiry date for most names to truly drop.

You should be able to get it from the redemption process, for $80 at GoDaddy I believe. The period should be 30 days, and an ICANN whois should show the status of "REGISTRY-HOLD".

Don't know now - this is how it was:
GoDaddy expired domains used to go to TDNam.
If you placed a backorder with GoDaddy, they used to place a bid for you at TDNam when the auction started.

Guess it is still the same.

all of godaddy's expired domains go to TDNAM before backorders go through, i don't know exactly the date that they start there but they seem to hit the "fire sale" for $5 38 days after they expire. They get released by godaddy on day 42 and then get picked up by backorders or other registrars. I have had mixed success with backorders. I took over an old buisness partners account and he had about a dozen backorder credits in it. I have been reapplying those credits to different domains for the last few weeks. I only have one left but it will be gone soon. it seems like snapnames does a better job at grabbing domains then the godaddy system, but if they dont sell the domain in auction they tend to drop it back to the registry and the back order will try to catch it there. I have gotten a few decent domains with this, but this was just using credits that didn't cost anything to me. I would not bank on a backorder if it is something that you really want to develop, for me it is like playing nickel slots in Vegas, doesn't hurt to lose but i get something to brag about if i catch it.
