So after some testing I am getting good results with reddit traffic wise. I got a few stories high up on smaller and bigger subreddits. So this part is good.

Now, what is the best way to monetize this traffic? I am going to try to get them to subscribe to a mailing list that will send out daily posts on the site to try and get repeat traffic that way and also boost my social profiles.

Does anyone do anything else?

You cant do it directly. Remember these are all hipsters who hate being marketed to by "the man". You need to abuse your retargeting profile. Get 5 products. 3 which you own (T-shirt site, joke service or a book etc) and two which you don't that closely match hipster interests. Bonus points if the service in question was discussed on reddit previously things like: THE INNER WORKINGS OF A SUBSCRIPTION BOX COMPANY. FROM A 4K SITE PURCHASE ON REDDIT TO CLOSE TO $100,000 IN REVENUE IN LESS THAN 6 MONTHS. HOW WE DID IT, AND WHAT or Artisan jerky, delivered.

You are basically picking things they may have heard of or things they can introduce to the world (your 3 services) and hitting them with ads. Remember these kids all care about internet points and being first. The sales and commission should start to trickle in. If your ads are funny count on your side businesses themselves being posted on reddit. Prepare yourself for that avalanche of cash.

Step 1 - Register TastyLambChops.org and redirect all Reddit traffic there.

Step 2 - Put pictures of baby lamb on there and name it something cute like Biscuit. It needs a name so people can identify with it as more than just an animal.

Step 3 - Announce your plans to eat Biscuit the lamb but that you're having a crisis of conscience. After all, Biscuit has been a loyal pet, but you don't have the money to look after biscuit any more and you're hungry and lamb chops are tasty.

Step 4 - Include a poll asking whether or not you should eat Biscuit the baby Lamb. Display updated result of poll and include a premium option where your vote counts 10x, 100X or 1000x depending on size of Bitcoin donation.

Step 5 - Neckbeards and SJW's of Reddit go to war against the trolls of Reddit and try to outbid each other.

Step 6 - Include incentives for each side. If at the end of the campaign you have raised $xx,xxx from the "eat the tasty lamb" coalition, then you will film the slaughter and grilling of the lamb chops. If you have raised $xx,xxx from the "don't hurt the cute little lamb" coalition, you will donate the lamb to a nearby petting zoo where the animal can live out its days being played with by happy little children.

Step 7 - Bank hard. Then write about your experiences gaming Reddit and bank again.

Thanks, you have given me some food for thought there! Yeah, I know that direct marketing won't work with them, I am just looking at improving from adsense.. Has anyone tried to get them to like their fan page (with a pop up on your site for example) or get them to subscribe to your email list? How was your success with those two options?

concoct some premium member tier with shiny exclusive flair, and..

implement a optional hide ads option,
implement custom themes only available to premium members,
offer custom avatars,
convenience features like highlighting new updates since the members most recent visit,
exclusive early access to content before lower tiered or free members,
make visited links a different color EVEN IF THEY ARE USING A DIFFERENT COMPUTER
wouldn't hurt to free trials for other services for your premium members
secret access for premium members only for different types of content

all my own brilliant and original ideas, did not steal a single one from https://www.reddit.com/gold/about

obviously you're probably not running a site *like* reddit but wouldn't hurt to look at how they monetize their own traffic and see if it gives you some ideas

Offer them a personal grooming kit. These neckbeards will be all over that.

Alright those are all good monetization ideas. How about how to get them to keep coming back to your site? I presume they won't subscribe to a newsletter...
