I did a search and didn't come up with a hit on this type of topic so I decided to post this. I have just recently started with affiliate marketing and am reading and absorbing all the knowledge I can about it. One thing I was unsure about is how you all go about determining what you want to market. Am i best off creating a blog on say... squidoo, seeing how many hits I am getting then determining whether that niche is something people are interested in or what? Is their a way to identify how much a certain promotion is converting? Hope this hasn't been blatantly answered elsewhere. Thanks in advance for the responses.

i think you also need to take a look at scalability. you need to ask yourself if you can advertise your offer also on other places than just adwords and yahoo...btw very good info in this blog post.
Pick something you know about first off, something you will enjoy writing about and know well. It will make it far easier to motivate yourself to post. If you are just starting out I wouldnt worry about scalability. You need to see for yourself how to get traffic, make sales etc then once you are comfortable with a what you are doing start looking at a more competitive niche where you can scale and make some cash. Just my 2cents

If you are willing to take it slow and steady, sure, write a blog.
If you want to make money, it isn't that hard to see what niches already are big. They''re hard to break into, but once you can = $$.

Ask your AM what offers are converting well and take that on. You know the offer is converting so then it's just a matter of picking a traffic source and working it until your profitable.
I usually just take a different colon cleanse or acai berry each day and whichever cleans me out faster that is the one I promote.
The smart way to do it is to research keywords - see what has high-paying offers you can promote without a lot of competition. I suggest the Thirty Day Challenge (Google it - I'm too lazy to link) to learn how to do this.
