what's the optimal hosting setup for lots of MFA sites? lukep says he fits about 8 accounts and 40 sites on each reseller with ease. first of all, what does that even mean? what accounts is he talking about? is he saying he has 8 cpanel installations and 40 addon domains on each account?

i've went ahead and bought a Hostgator reseller account for these microniche sites, but I don't know how to set it up optimally for such a large amount of sites. hence the post (after an hour of research).

also, what's the point of worrying about multiple IPs when your AdSense ID is already a footprint? hostgator now charges $2/mo per ip BUT, you have to pay $50 for a SSL cert. i'm guessing having multiple IPs could help you get ranked better and so the benefit is simply better potential rankings (and not protection from anything that could go wrong with the AdSense team reviewing your sites).

With the reseller hosting, you can sell accounts to other people, or use them yourself. So now you can function as if you have a ton of different hosting accounts, but use them for yourself. On each of those, you can slap some amount of sites on there (how many is your preference).

And yeah, you nailed it. No point in worrying about multiple IP's if they are all Adsense. But you may not use Adsense on all of them. Or you may register an LLC or a DBA and get multiple adsense accounts and want to keep them separate.

Thanks hobbster! Any idea whether I should use addon domains (with say 10 sites to a cPanel), or should I just use separate cPanel installs for each and every site? Each site will have 10-50 pages of content, but many will start with much less. I'm just wondering if addon domains provide any benefit to someone managing a lot of sites. Or maybe single cPanel installs are more beneficial.

but what's the benefit of addon domains, if anything? or the benefit of separate cpanel installs?
