Can someone explain the Addon Domain option with HostGator?

This is what it says about Addon Domain

"Addon Domain Maintenance

Addon Domains are domain names that point to subdirectories within your account."

Will I be able to have a own domain name (fastcar.com) or will it be a subdirectory of my existing domain under my hosting plan (fastcar.mysite.com)

do I have to open another hosting plan for a my new domain name?

it will be both (subdomain and domain).

depends on what plan you bought. If you bought the one with "unlimited domains" nah you don't have to open a new plan.

Glad to see that you got to add a domain. For me it's been so far so good with Hostgator. I have one account with 60 added domains (mostly mfa sites). It's pretty easy to configure.

link above explains add on domains. Basically it uses your main domain to do a add on domain, it think its just to keep cpanel organised. The search engines dont know the difference. you will have to go to subdomain stats in the stats page to see the stats.

the weird thing is that the addon domain function is a pretty common tool in cPanel and I would assume in other control panels like plesk. Most host out there run cPanel.

oh the weird thing being that this seems like you've never heard of the function or other host using cPanel.
