Ok so I've had like 3 or 4 hosting accounts with host gator all set up for the one site on each account.

I noticed the "unlimited sites" stuff on the Cheap-o package when I signed up for one of my more recent projects. I picked up a few domains last night that I wanted to try and set up on the "Add on Domains" tab in the c-panel.

Domain1 (On host gator account)
Domain2 (add on domain @ different registrar, pointed to Domain 1's Name servers)

When I go to Domain2, it shows this in the address bar:
Domain2.Domain1

Is there any way to set this up so Domain2 is not a sub domain of Domain1?
More specifically, how can I get only Domain2 to show in the address bar. Would I need the Reseller package? Or is this achievable using the cheaper packages?

It's doable with cheaper packages but there's a difference between "subdomains" and "addon domains". Also, keep in mind that both will share an IP address.

I had this problem a while back for one of my addons. Once I uploaded my index file for the addon site, it stopped redirecting to the subdomain and showed the correct domain in the address bar.

I'm a newbie but I have used HG for awhile ($9 bucks, unlimited domains).

1. check to make sure that both DNS names match (nsNN1.hostgator.com, nsNN2.hostgator.com)

2. log into cpanel, click on ADDON-DOMAINS. Middle of the screen, there is a field called NEW DOMAIN NAME; type your DOMAIN 2 here

3. Tab to the next field and it should automatically populate with DOMAIN2. Don't type in anything else

4. Tab and type in your password and click on ADD DOMAIN

5. Confirm

6. Capture your final confirmation screen for record

You should be able to type in DOMAIN 2 in the URL.

Hostgator Cpanel calls it an 'addon' domain not a subdomain. For the domain,"www.SomeDomain.com",add on domains the real URL, subdomains show "www.SomeDomain.YourMainDomain.com" at least on my account.
