Well, first you have to be motivated enough to read the book
But yes, GTD is a very useful and highly acclaimed system. While Ive only gotten through half of the book, the parts that I have implemented have been pretty damn amazing.
For example, you break todo lists up into subject. You could have @Habits, @URGENT, @Work, @School, whatever. Another useful tip is having a SOMEDAY list. If you see random little shit like 'clean out bookshelf', you write it down immediately under the Someday list so it doesnt sit on your mind.
There are also lots of 'principles'. By that, I mean one of the more important ones are you have a.) a calendar and b.) a todo list. Calendar is for inflexible, must be done, set in stone dates whereas your todo lists are flexible and fluid.
