Hiring a Programmer

There's some good guys at rentacoder.com.

You can post your project description, and then you'll get some bids. Each programmer has ratings/jobstats, so you can get an idea what you're getting yourself into. I used to do alot of work over there, but I realized I was only helping others get rich while I did the hard work. :)

Be careful of the scams. Some guys use scripts to give the same cookie cutter reply to any project and then never follow though. You could ask 'How do I program a penut butter and jelly sandwich' and you will still get automated bids.

Rent a coder SUCKS balls. They look after the programmer more than you. I've been ripped off pretty badly...

Outsourcing to Freelance Programmers, Web & Logo Designers, Writers, Illustrators on Elance I've never tried them... but they can't do a crappier job than protecting the buyer than rent a coder.

I bet I can find 50 coders over there who think the opposite of you. Rent-a-Coder seems to be biased toward the buyers, not the coders. It's probably that way because there is a shortage of buyers and a surplus of coders over there. In fact, i've been pissed at rent a coder twice because they fucked me over. Example of their shit......guy wants a site done in classic ASP and gives requirements, i meet all his requirements and install the working code on his server. He comes back and tells me that his programmer can't work with my code because I "didn't code it in ASP, i coded in JScript" (his exact words to the arbitration handler). Well, turns out he wanted the solution in VBScript, but never stated that in the requirements. Apparantly, he thought that ASP was synonymous to vbscript and my 'jscript' was not true ASP. Nonetheless, rent-a-coder sided with the fucker.

There are some good coders over there. Just make sure to get every one of your requirements on your specs doc. Coders aren't mindreaders.

I tihnk all the rent a coder type places suck but can get the job done. I've use scriptlance, elance and rent-a-coder. Basically you have to go through 20 programers to find one that's worth a shit. Once you do keep him busy 24/7 because the good ones always have work.

Good luck

i have used them all and imho elance is the best. require written proposals and US based references. detailing everything out in the beginning is a must.

good luck

I have used rentacoder for many jobs and never had a serious problem.
I am very good at detailing exactly what I want as well as identifying someone that understands exactly what I want. I'm sorry to hear about your experiences, but I wanted to let you know that there are some very good programmers there too. You just have to learn the ropes a bit.

I have used RAC , never had a problem. If you area a buyer...just research the programmers feedback etc. before accepting.
