hiding sidebar in wordpress

I really dont want the wordpress area's like archive, buddies, links etc on my wordpress site. Is there a way to just insert some code that would hide this stuff without actually going in and deleting all of the code. I can delete the code and make the stuff disapear, but i might want it back someday and it would be easier to not have to repaste everything in there.

Don't forget that you can comment out the php code that generates the html, <? /* code here */ ?> if you don't want even the html showing up in view->source
