Help With A Picture

Ok so I had a friend design a logo for me this past week for a sports site that I am working on. He is out of town now and I have no help or clue how to use the photoshop. If someone could walk me through this it would be great. I don't want anyone to just do it for me as I really can't offer anything financially unless a link on my site would be relevent.

I've attached the logo and what I want to do is have the background the same as the second picture, is that possible? If I'm a complete idiot tell me but it just doesnt look right right now.

I know this sounds stupid but where would I find that? I just added you on my MSN but you don't seem to be on.

I'd like to get it down ASAP but I'd also like to learn how it is done.
