Haven't put together a computer in a couple of years. Been out of the game. Hardware changes every day. Need your advice.

Looking to build a desktop computer for a music production studio. We already have an external sound card (USB). We need dual monitor support (already have monitors). 4GB of RAM. Other than that it's an open game. Budget $400 CAD (~ $380 USD).

Any tips on what to look out for?

Thanks!

You can mix and produce on decent laptop, it's what you're outputting to that matters. A external USB sound card might not be good enough for final mastering. You probably want a device like this that supports a range of sample rates as well as a good external DAC that does the same - something that excels at reclocking to eliminate jitter. Another good site to look at.

There, I've just blown your budget.

We'd ideally want a laptop, but anything with RAM is outside our budget. As for the soundcard, it's not an average sound card. We have a TASCAM one made for studios. It has mic inputs and several line outputs and can produce I believe up to 96k frequencies. It was about $400 alone when we got it.

where did you get the loops from?

answers that ? on the auction.. made them myself along with a friend. have my own little setup..
