Has the economy affected affiliate marketing in any way?

Any slowdown (or acceleration) in this segment? Conventional wisdom suggests that advertising and marketing budgets are going to be down, but the pay-for-performance nature of affiliate marketing should be attractive to businesses regardless of the economic climate.

What's been going on with payouts, new programs, networks, etc?

When it comes to affiliate marketing, the biggest advantage is that you can jump to a whole new niche in a day. Whenever there is an economic crisis, couple niches will tank, while couple other will prosper. As an experienced affiliate, you should always keep adapting to the prosperous ones.

I feel more are seeking ways to make money on the internet now. They tend to go for those "autopilot" ,"make money doing nothing" kind of programs or systems. These kinds i understand are seeing a rise in participation.

My several niches are completely dead. I do have several offers that are free CPA deals that are doing as well as before but all my offers that require payment are tanking.

I went from 1 in 20 sales online to 1 in 100. Luckly I own several off line small loan companies that are booming at the moment.

business as usual luckily, took some hits over thanksgiving but now we're smiling again

guess fat girls still want to be thin even when they're poor (or its a business decision and they think they can get a wealthier man with a tighter waistline..??)

my other niches have been unaffected also

try offers that dont require users cc - people arent spendinng, 3% drop with most stashing/saving. Its a macro and micro economic cycle plus the worldwide domino "fear" effect. Of course it also depends on the offer since some will still convert depending on the product/service....etc...

I have definitely seen a rise in conversion rates for Work At Home and Edu offers as well as Product & Gas coupons are also performing quite well.

Very true. People are less likely to pull out their cc. Find niches where people are charged without a CC....:music06:

I found that affiliate marketing in a recession has increased 1000% for my business but not in any financial niches

it has nothing to do with affiliate marketing. making irrelevant statements is a hobby of mine.

Duh . . .

What's that got to do with affiliate marketing ???

I was always led to beleive this was an area which Al Capone and his mobsters played an active part . . .

It was an extremely relevant statement.

Tailor your offers to the times you live in.
Give the people what they want.
People will always pay a lot for booze and babes.

The number one reason why people buy something is to feel better about themselves. Period.

If you can get really good at targeting things that make people feel good you'll find plenty of niches that will remain evergreen, even in these times.

As a prior poster said, weight loss is always going to be huge (excuse the pun!) as will gambling, making money online, work at home, dating, things related to improving your appearance, and self-help/self-improvement (certain segments of that.)

I'm staying away from mainstream retail type items - nonessentials like fashion-related stuff. Those have dropped like flies and companies are going under.

For the most part it hasn't affected me. However the credit card niche has taken a beating. Amex canceled their business card affiliate program, chase canned their whole program, approval rates are down and merchants like citi, bofa, and capital one aren't letting new people in.

I just read an article about how internet use is up as a result of layoffs. People I know that own call centers for bizopp backend sales arent hurting which means leads are still coming in. They aren't making as much money as in 05' or 06' but 500k a week still aint bad.-----------thats just the bizopp world though
