One of my co-workers spends a few months here then moves to the 3rd world for the rest of the year, he's in Chile now (since last summer), he's coming back next month to get some more money.
But, a lot of the opportunities here want local people, where I work, they'll pay $100/hr locally over someone charging $20/hr remotely, all day long.
I'm self taught, use Unity 3d, and have a pretty good paying day job. My paycheck for 2 weeks, being an hourly employee:
Not the most money in the world, but it's actually a lot of fun and sustainable...and I used to work construction for money a few years ago.
Never would have happened for me remotely....my tactic for the last 2 years has been: get in the door (first Unity job was $15/hr, moved from that to $50 in 1 move), work ass off, impress people, make more money.
