I'm going to try it myself soon, but I'd love to hear some experiences about the SEO effects of guest blogging.

Oh and uh, boobies.

In the grand scheme of things, it's just a link. Getting links from a diverse number of domains + from strong pages like guest posts on powerful blogs is the way to go imo

You get two links initially - the home page which could have a high page rank, and the actual blog page which has no page rank.

Now, you could build some extra links to the page yourself to build up its page rank, and in most cases this is good. However, if it's your direct competition then you probably shouldn't help their site.

The main reason you guest blog though is not to build links to your site, it's to build brand awareness and gain some followers. So, don't do it unless you have some good content on your own site that could keep that initial surge in traffic.

Oh the actual blog page has no pr.. since it falls off the home page anyway..

On second thoughts, I guess guest blogging for pr ain't worth it.

I'm not a big fan of it as something to focus on for SEO. I agree that it's just a link ( or 2 links)..but I disagree with the assumption that the post link has no value once it drops off the home page. Good blogs rank for individual posts. Good posts rank. Good posts get links. So the post itself could receive links and higher value depending on the quality and demand for the information in the post.
