Intradasting. About to play around with this..

Looks like you can use it not just to create html5 animation-based ads, but also for animated website elements that can be activated as you scroll down the page (as shown on their webdesigner landing page above).

looks interesting - why on earth it is called google web designer is beyond me.

played with it today for a little while, looks good for those who do a ton of media buys or in a production environment

I see they are offering a design tool. What would have been a better name?

You get to play with the code a little bit if you want to, so I guess that's where the "web designer" part comes in.
I like it, it feels like a proper tool for html5.

Has anyone actually used this?

Would be 1000x better if it was like photoshop + dreamweaver.

But looks like you can only make specific ads for their network and can't open html files that weren't created with it lame.

It's pretty cool to play around with but in reality I still like my ads designed in photoshop.

You're missing the point. Photoshop makes animated GIFs. It doesn't make animated HTML5 elements. There's a huge difference.

Think of this like Flash, only so much cooler and much more versatile.

Adobe has a similar product called Edge Animate... http://html.adobe.com/edge/animate/.

Bad name. No one would have used it.

I guess you know nothing about marketing/CRO.

The name of a product is perceptive. Have you ever participated in a naming brainstorm? Sparks fly out there. There is usually a story behind every name. Unless ofcourse you are limited by domain availability, in which case, anything goes. CRO can have various aspects to it too.

Insinuating that someone is unaware about marketing or CRO, when they suggest a name that he/she think is right or matches the product better, is plain simply wrong in this context, IMO.

Also, Google is not always right when it comes to CRO. They have fucked up with products in the past.
