Did Google and Microsoft go too far when they suspended the accounts of some 500 advertisers and agents, merely to appease a federal agency who is investigating related companies? Google and Microsoft have effectively shuttered these operations before anyone had a chance to plead their case.

Here's a blog I just posted on this: Google, Microsoft Assume Roles of Judge, Jury and Executioner on the Web · FTC Beat

I would appreciate people's thoughts.

Interestingly enough, it looks like SIGTARP has taken down those press releases which brag about "shutting down" mortgage "schemes." Try to click on the hyperlinks on their site: U.S. Office of the SIGTARP : Press. It may be because, when I asked them yesterday under what authority they shut down the sites, they defaulted to Google's actions.
