Interesting. Guess Google shouldn't have problems with affs running Google money offers and using Google in the kws and ads then.

This is kinda fucked up. I was under the impression that Google enforces these trademark rules at the request of the trademark owner. So unless Google has convinced these companies that allowing usage of their trademark would be beneficial, they are basically pissing on a major advertisement stream.

Did anyone actually read the article...

This is retarded.

1. "Google lets marketers in a handful of countries pay to surface their ads when a would-be customer searches for a rival's brand name"

2. "Honda, for instance, could bid to have one of its ads displayed when a consumer searches the term "Toyota.""

It does not mention using trademarks IN THE AD.. it is saying you can bid on other companies trademarks... last time I checked I've been doing that since 2006

Google has allowed bidding on trademarked terms in the US for 5 yrs now (you just can't use it in the ad copy)

Trademark rights in US, UK, Ireland and Canada

When we receive a complaint from a trademark owner, we only investigate the use of the trademark in ad text. If the advertiser is using the trademark in ad text, we will require the advertiser to remove the trademark and prevent them from using it in ad text in the future. Please note that we will not disable keywords in response to a trademark complaint.

I was always under the impression that this wasn't allowed anywhere because my keywords on MSN got disabled for trademarks, that's what I get for ASSuming I guess. This is sweet :)
