I’ve got a dating site with tons of content ranking #1 for an extremely popular dating phrase, but, after checking Google this morning my site was replaced by an ebook: http://www.internetdatingguide.org/

Welcome to the Google Dance! Happens all the time. There are so many variables involved, it's often hard to pin down. Often, after Google does an update things will shake up a bit. Like a few months ago when they rolled out a new algo nicknamed "Big Daddy" there was a huge shakeup. Sites that ranked in the top ten for a long time disappeared, some even ended up in the "sandbox" (the Google Sandbox is mostly theory that new sites will spend time in the 'sandbox' until they grow up enough to play with the 'adults'. It's a hotly debated topic amongst SEO's. Some believe it's true and some say it's BS). Also, the recent update of Page Rank and IBL's (InBound Links) rattled some cages.

Don't sweat it too much. Just do you best to build your links, and optimize your content. If you site should truly be at number 1, then it will be back.

Analysis of your site:

Keywords: internet, dating, advice, safe, online, dates, stories, ugly, mailorder, bride, smart, safety, scam, scammer, background, privacy, tips, dangerous, secrets, fun, experience,

Keyword Recommendations: remove the commas, most search engines that even bother to look at keywords will ignore commas. Focus more on your topic. Trim your list, again more focused. Start your list with the most relevant keywords. Your site is not about the internet, it's about dating ON the internet. So, try a list like this:

Keywords: dating date dates tips secrets online internet safety privacy

More content. Most of your keywords don't even appear in your content. Don't list them if they don't. Use a Keyword Density Analyzer to see if your getting close. Obviously you want to see your primary keywords at the top of the list when checking density.

Include exerpts from the book. This will help with content and hopefully relevance.

Links : Since this is a dating book, try to get links from dating sites. Preferably one way IBL's. If they demand a reciprocal link, then add a "Resources" page to your site. At the bottom of your page just hyperlink to your "Links" or "Resources" page and then list your link partners there. That way you're not diluting your PR. Anytime you link from a page to someone else you are saying to the SE's (search engines) "I feel this other page is as important as my page", so limit the links on your home page to only really good ones.

Submit to every directory you can. Directories are generally a great way to get free IBL's. Vilesilencer has a huge list.

Feel free to PM me if you need help. I've included some handy links below.

Keyword Density Tool - My personal favorite (at this time)
Google Dance Tool - McDar has some great tools, and this one is one of their best. You can check your ranking on multiple datacenters at once (Google has over 500 datacenters, so if you go to http://www.google.com you never know which one you are on)
Misc SEO Tools
Backlink Checker
Variety of Tools
WebConfs.com - Some awesome tools here. One of my favorite sites for SEO tools.

Yeah... I think Google decided the ebook sales page was better than my site

Thanks for the info Mike, do you know anything about Markov Chains?

Perhaps this link provides a better explanation of what I’m hinting at. Thanks for being a good sport!

I'm not very well versed in Markov chains, so I just posted the first thing that popped into my head. :eek7: Luckily, it was sort of related to the topic and not porn. That pops into my brain more often than Markov. :love-smiley-083:
