boatBurner mentioned this on fb, thought I'd post it here..

Waving goodbye to Winamp, paying respects to Nullsoft | Crave - CNET

I can't remember for how long I used it, been years, but was definitely my first mp3 player. Nostalgia.

I wish I got into the skinning scene back then..

Here's my feeble attempt ;P

I did stop using it a few years ago when I bought my first Mac. I think I have used winamp since 1998 or something, nostalgia!

Musicmatch then Foobar for me. Did use the Winamp DSP bridge in Foobar though so I could use some DSP effects to make some of my live bootlegs sound better. Winamp's popularity initiated some great peripheral development.

I don't understand, why AOL shut it down?
Anyway RIP but i am going to still use it.

Damn winamp was the shit for a while. It was like firefox before chrome came out.

I still use Winamp. I must be one of the few people around who still listens to Shoutcast streams.

Winamp has saved millions from having to use that piece of shit Windows Media Player. I learned how to make custom XP install CDs just to save the trouble of removing WMP after install.

Lately I've been using VLC for video and Mixxx for audio.

I still use Winamp. I must be one of the few people around who still listens to Shoutcast streams.

639,354 listeners right now according to shoutcast.com

I'm guessing that a lot of listeners aren't even very familiar with what Winamp or Shoutcast are. Sites such as somafm.com have become their own brands that people get referred to.

And here's a plug for the open source Icecast directory.
